F.A.Q. - General Questions

General NHCYO FAQ's
Q. How do I sign up?
A. You should talk to the youth coordinator or Pastor of your church. Early September is the time to talk to them, as the preseason normally begins right around there. Ask them who to talk to about their CYO program.

Q. My church doesn’t have a CYO program. Can I play somewhere else?
A. Possibly. We do have allowances for players/cheerleaders who either, do not have a CYO program at their church. It depends on how many people like yourself there are in a particular season. Your best bet is to look on our web site at the section called “Contact Us”, and contact the league president for your age group.

Q. My parish does offer a program. I tried out for it, but did not make the team. Can I play somewhere else?
A. Possibly. We do have allowances for players/cheerleaders who were not able to make the team, if their parish does offer a program. Your best bet is to look on our web site at the section called “Contact Us”, and contact the league president for your age group.

Q. I have a friend who is not a Catholic. Can they play?
A. We do allow (2) non-Catholic players per team. There are many rules that need to be followed, which can be found in our rulebook on page 5, section 6. If you have questions, your best bet is to talk to your coach.

Q. What are the age restrictions?
A. These can be found in the rulebook on page 3, but to give you a quick idea:
  • Intermediate (also known as Seniors) – Has not yet completed high school and is under 19 years of age but not under age 14.
  • Junior – Under age 16 but not under age 12.
  • 7th and 8th Grade (also known as Cadets) – Has not yet completed eighth grade of school and is under age 15 but not under age 10.
  • 5th and 6th Grade (also known as Mites) – Must be in 6th grade of school or below, and under age 13 but not under age 8.
  • Catholic Grammar School – Participants must be a student at that school, must not have completed the eighth grade, and must meet the specified age guidelines for the division.
  • NOTE - These are based on what your age is on December 31st, of the current season.
